Tyler Performs Igor

Following the release of Igor last week (May 17), Tyler, The Creator performed the album in full for the very first time in front of an intimate Los Angeles crowd Wednesday night (May 22). The performance was livestreamed through Apple Music and subscribers can view it now.

In the midst of running through his 40-minute effort, Tyler dropped several tidbits regarding how the album came together. One gem saw the Oddfuture co-founder explain how he originally wrote “Earfquake” for Justin Bieber and even later pitched it to Rihanna, but both refused.

Kid Cudi

Cudi, 34, is oscillating between delightedly at ease and on the edge of excitement when we meet in Los Angeles at the Chateau Marmont hotel. It’s a Wednesday afternoon, in the midst of a vicious heat wave that’s weighing heavily on the city. He lounges in a hotel room chair in bright yellow shorts and an old Beavis and Butt-Head T-shirt but jumps in close, with a spark in his eye, when answering questions. The Chateau Marmont was built in 1929 to be earthquake-proof and survived massive ones in 1933, 1953, 1971, 1987 and 1994. It is fitting to meet this artist here — not because so many celebrity interviews happen in the building, but because it is a place that has endured even as the earth has moved beneath it.

Jay-Z Returns

After initially pulling his Blueprint trilogy from streaming services in favor of his company Tidal in 2016, on Wednesday (May 22), Jay-Z has brought those albums back to Apple Music.

In 2016, Jay-Z yanked the Blueprint series from Apple Music, Spotify and Google Play. His 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt, vanished from streaming services back in 2015 and remains the only album from Jay-Z’s discography unavailable on Apple Music.

YG

With YG gearing up to unleash his 4REAL 4REAL album release on Friday (May 24), the Compton rapper stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday (May 23) to keep the “Go Loko” movement going full-speed ahead with yet another lively performance alongside Tyga and Jon Z.

YG brought along a Mariachi band and a few cacti to give the set more of a desert feel. The “Big Bank” rapper strutted in his red slim-fitting suit and snazzy cowboy hat to match, which it seems like he hasn’t changed out of since the Mustard and GYLTTRYP-produced single dropped earlier this month.

Rihanna Stores?

Rihanna the first black woman in history to head up a major Parisian luxury house, is unveiling her first fashion designs for Fenty at a pop-up store in Paris. The collection, named after the singer-turned-designer’s last name, comprises ready-to-wear, footwear, accessories, and eyewear and is available for sale Paris’ Le Marais area from Friday (May 24) and will debut online May 29.

“This is a moment in history,” Rihanna, 31, said at a preview of the store in a white structure tuxedo dress. “It’s a big deal for me and my entire generation.” News of the singer’s groundbreaking new deal with LVMH, the world’s largest luxury group, shook up the fashion industry earlier this month.

Chika New Powerhouse?

As a native Alabamian, Jane Chika Oranika felt like she had to do something. The 22 year-old rapper who goes by Chika, is best known for her freestyle call-out of Kanye West over Yeezy’s own “Jesus Walks” beat from last year, as well as her body positive campaign for Calvin Klein’s #MyCalvins. But on Wednesday night’s (May 22) Jimmy Kimmel Live! she was tapped by guest host Lena Waithe to debut a new song that had a very powerful message.

“I wrote a song and its entitled ‘Richey v. Alabama’… we all know what’s going on in Alabama right now and I’m from Alabama, so I felt like with this opportunity and the way that it lined up it would make so much sense for me to come one here and speak for people who otherwise feel voiceless,” Chika said, alluding to the controversial anti-abortion bill signed by the state’s Republican governor that is the strictest abortion legislation in the nation.

Lil Uzi Eternal Atake Explained

It’s been a long, complicated road to the release of Lil Uzi Vert’s next album. Nearly ten months have passed since he teased the title of Eternal Atake, and it’s been nearly five months since he first claimed the project was finished. At times, it looked like the album would never come out (like the moment he announced his retirement), but there have been signs of progress over the past couple months, culminating with the release of a pair of singles in April: “Sanguine Paradise” and “That’s a Rack.” Then, on May 12 at Rolling Loud, Uzi announced that he had finished the final song on the album. As we wait for Eternal Atake to finally arrive, let’s retrace the many important steps on the road to Uzi’s forthcoming LP.

Tyler the Creator

His upcoming project, titled IGOR, will be released on May 17. It’s the rapper-producer’s sixth full-length (including his 2009 mixtape BASTARD), and the follow-up to 2017’s Flower Boy — likely his best-received album to date, and one that marked a new artistic transition for him towards the sunny and improvisational. So far, we don’t have much information to go on for what IGOR will sound like; the announcement came on Twitter and was accompanied by two album covers. The first looks inspired by Grace Jones, according to some, and the second, designed by Lewis Rossignol, is decidedly more expressionistic. Last week, Tyler dropped two snippets teasing new music, but has yet to release a full song from the album.

Odell X Nike Shoe

Odell might have been traded from the New York Giants to the Cleveland Browns this offseason, but the superstar wide out is staying put on Team Nike. In the spirit of Air Max Day, OBJ took to Instagram today to show off his latest collaboration with the brand.

The model of choice this time around is the Air Max 720. However, the upper on this particular pair is quite different than the 720s that you will currently see at retailers. The synthetic upper and usual overlays on each side panel have been done away with in favor of a more traditional mesh, suede, and nubuck build. Vibrant pink suede wraps the toe and heel, while blue suede hits can be found on the toe and heel. A grey overlay with volt mesh netting covers each side panel. The main detail on the upper is the colorful Coogi sweater-esque pattern gracing the toe box and ankle collar

Kodak Facing More Charges

The Rolling Loud Music Festival celebrating global hip-hop artists in South Florida did not go so well for Kodak Black and Lil Wayne.

The U.S. Marshals Service said in a news release that Black was arrested Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. The statement said he was charged with a crime in connection with weapons, but didn’t elaborate.

For Black, whose current name is Bill Kapri and who was born as Dieuson Octave to Haitian American parents in Florida, this arrest is the latest in a lengthy rap sheet he has assembled at the age of 21.
